C e i l i d h D o o n sprung out of StrathSpan when piper/fiddler extraordinaire, Cathleen Nixon, joined Julia and Nora in 2022, adding the energy of her Scottish small pipes and the boost of an extra fiddle to Julia's sonorous cello and Nora's quicksilver violin. Originally formed as a simple Ceilidh Band for parties and dancing, they grew into an accomplished performing group creating complex arrangements around the small pipes. Their resulting sound is an inventive interpretation of Scottish pipe and fiddle music, punctuated with rhythmic backgrounds and filled with cool harmonies. On occasion, special guest, Jason Higgins, an amazing percussionist, joins in to play the bodhran, the snare drum, and the ocean drum, adding even more to their unique sound.
